A Little About Us
Lake Wallace Design came into being when we registered as a business with the State of Vermont in 2010. That’s when Bud Lima’s developing talent and knowledge of web design was requested by the Canaan (VT) Memorial Schools to create a web site for their evolving Career Center*.
Simply stated, we needed a way to get paid for Bud’s work, so we created the business. Just for fun, and to make sure the business mirrored our home, we named Margaret Lima as President. Marg's (Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Sigma Nu) education and years of experience as a high school English teacher make her the ultimate copy editor. Her ability to juggle running a household along with being the best wife and mother ever make her an even better boss!
Before being recruited by the Canaan Schools, Bud created an extensive website for Jackson’s Lodge and Log Cabins* on Lake Wallace in Canaan, VT. It was during this time that he researched and learned the basics of utilizing HTML, and programs like Dreamweaver, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
Bud has since ditched Dreamweaver and now transcribes HTML within the popular "mobile-first" Bootstrap framework developed through the GitHub project. The goal is to create sites that work on small mobile devices with a minimum of resizing or horizontal scrolling, yet still look great on full-size monitors. Websites that are mobile-friendly have become a necessity because people are searching more from their mobile devices, and, with search engine optimization (SEO) in mind, Google has begun to penalize sites that are not designed to work well on these smaller devices.
All that being said, Lake Wallace Design is more of a fun ongoing project than a client-seeking business. We have actually turned down prospective clients for different reasons. Basically, if the job doesn't look like it will be fun, we’re just not interested.
The Real Fun
Now that we have (and pay for) this little bit of cyber real estate, we figured we might as well have some fun with it and invite family and friends to have fun with it also.
For starters, Bud has uploaded a bunch of pretty basic recipes so that our kids and others can easily access them. The mobile-friendly format makes it possible for you to look up a recipe with your phone, lay the phone down on the counter, and impress your friends.
There is also a page featuring our daughter Alison’s wedding to our favorite son-in-law, Justin Andersen. From this page you can listen to or download the songs Bud recorded which were played before, during, and after the ceremony. ("Here Comes The Bride" is pretty sweet!)
Our History
Bud Lima and Margaret Dempsey started dating on June 15, 1973 in Weymouth, MA.
We were married on September 13, 1980 and moved to our home on Lake Wallace in Canaan, VT where we live to this day. We raised three amazing children: Alison, Michael, and Brian.
*Disclaimer: The Canaan Career Center site Bud created has since been totally reworked and updated by the school’s IT person. The Jackson’s Lodge Site has since been reworked by a web development agency through a USDA grant, but Bud's original site (which was not designed as mobile-friendly) can still be viewed here.
